Since the release of the firmware 7.0, all HOOC gateways run on a unified operating system. Despite this standardization, each gateway continues to support its specific functions. Furthermore, the firmware 7.0 introduced several new features — among them, the creation of isolated and virtual network groups. If you're interested in learning more, you’ll find detailed information here, under the CrossLink solution or in the Docs portal. Consequently, the “one-for-all” firmware ensures greater consistency — and ultimately, enhanced security.
What’s particularly interesting is that gateways can now be configured directly from the HOOC Management Portal. There’s also the option to first apply a temporary configuration before finalizing it.
There are also additional device-specific functions, which are listed below. To check whether these features are available for your gateway, the quickest way is to consult the overview in the Docs portal.
Additional description field for each rule
New protocol type for IP mapping
→ When using the OPT0 network group for networking, it’s now possible to forward all ports of an IP address.
Option to view current DHCP leases
Static DHCP leases can be configured
→ You can reserve an IP address and assign it to a specific MAC address.
Up to seven additional alias IP addresses can be assigned if needed.
→ This helps reduce configuration complexity. It’s also useful for networking in routing settings when using the “IP to IP Mapping” protocol type.
New diagnostic tools – PING & Traceroute
New diagnostic tool – DNS Lookup: Resolves a domain’s IP address
New diagnostic tool – Speed Test: Checks the speed of the internet connection
Local configuration: Adjustments can be made and saved directly
Configuration via the HOOC Management Portal: Changes are first applied temporarily and must be confirmed within a set time to be saved. If not confirmed, the device will automatically revert to the previous configuration after the time expires.
→ This temporary-to-permanent mechanism helps to reduce configuration errors. In case, something is misconfigured so the device can no longer connect to the HOOC Cloud or if the user can’t confirm the temporary configuration, it is the last valid configuration that will be automatically restored.
Security setting to disable local configuration
→ Since the HOOC gateway can now also be configured directly via the HOOC Cloud, there is an additional option to completely disable local configuration on the gateway.
